Beckford Wants Out Of Elland Rd
Leeds United want away striker Jermaine Beckford could make a switch to tyneside to join Newcastle United as they lead the pack chasing the strikers signature. Interest is mounting from clubs including QPR, Birmingham and Stoke City but it is also reported the Newcastle have the Leeds striker as their number one priority signing. Leeds increased the value of the player to atleast 3 million after scoring a goal against the champions Manchester in Sunday's victorious FA Cup game. Stoke and Birmingham City joined the race to sign Beckford after the initial Newcastle offer of 1.1 million was turned down by Leeds chairman Ken Baites. Leeds manager Simon Grayson also added "Even though Jermaine has requested a transfer, he is still a Leeds United player while ever he is under contract with us and therefor will be treated the same as any other player." Beckford is expected to start Leed's match against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday providing a deal has not been reached in the meantime.
